Are Hepatic Adenomas Premalignant?
نویسنده
چکیده
Objective: To investigate clinical experience with the apparent malignant transformation of benign liver cell adenomas. Design: Retrospective review of personal experience and literature. Setting: University hospital and affiliated community hospitals. Patients: All patients diagnosed with liver cell adenomas over a 30-year period. Interventions: Liver resection and/or tumor biopsy. Main Outcome Measures: Gender, age, drug associations, alpha-fetoprotein levels, response to treatment, and survival. Results: Thirteen patients from personal experience and 26 patients from the reports of others had liver cell adenomas that were not resected. Five of these patients subsequently developed hepatocellular carcinoma. Conclusions: Malignant transformation of a liver cell adenoma is a rare phenomenon, but it does occur. Alphafetoprotein levels may be more helpful in diagnosis than expected from previous reports. Solitary benign adenomas should be resected whenever possible. Patients with diffuse multiple tumors should be observed closely over a long

Runme Shaw Memorial Lecture 2002. Modern management of colorectal polyps: Are they all premalignant?
There are various types of polyps in the colon and rectum. Most colorectal polyps in the colon and rectum are either adenomas or hyperplastic polyps. In general, adenomas are considered to be premalignant. Adenoma-carcinoma sequence is an established theory of carcinogenesis in the large bowel in Western countries. However, small adenomas are ubiquitous phenomena, and it is questionable whether...
متن کاملSex hormones and hepatic neoplasia.
The recent increase in hepatocellular neoplasms in women of child-bearing age taking oral contraceptives and in individuals of both sexes taking anabolic androgenic steroids is a phenomenon that requires urgent attention. Although most of the lesions are benign, reports of carcinomas in a few of these individuals and our own observation of an adenoma that shows borderline malignant transformati...
متن کاملThe somatic mutation landscape of premalignant colorectal adenoma.
OBJECTIVE There are few studies which characterised the molecular alterations in premalignant colorectal adenomas. Our major goal was to establish colorectal adenoma genome atlas and identify molecular markers of progression from colorectal adenoma to adenocarcinoma. DESIGN Whole-exome sequencing and targeted sequencing were carried out in 149 adenoma samples and paired blood from patients wi...
متن کاملCpG island methylation in premalignant stages of gastric carcinoma.
There are limited reports on methylation analysis of the premalignant lesions of gastric carcinoma thus far. This is despite the fact that gastric carcinoma is one of the tumors with a high frequency of CpG island hypermethylation. To determine the frequency and timing of hypermethylation during multistep gastric carcinogenesis, non-neoplastic gastric mucosa (n = 118), adenomas (n = 61), and ca...

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the significance of P53 and Ki-67 expression as immunohistochemical markers in early detection of premalignant changes in different types of colorectal adenomas. Also, to correlate immunohistochemical expression of the two markers with different clinicopathological parameters including; age, and sex of the patient, type, site, size and grade of dysplasia of colorectal ade...
